MACI Demonstrations

Demonstration Summaries

The Minnesota Active Citizenship Initiative (MACI) builds a cross-sector base that works to reconnect the function of governing with the role of citizen. MACI consists of civic initiatives—called demonstrations—working in diverse sectors of society. Lead organizers from the demonstrations meet once a month at the Civic Leadership Institute (CLI) to govern, learn, and build cross-sector partnerships.

Civic Business. Civic Business builds the capacity of business institutions to contribute to building a civic infrastructure.

Civic Education. The core purpose of education is to cultivate the content and character each generation needs to be a democratic people and govern wisely in accordance with its principles. Civic Education demonstrates how educational institutions and systems would use a civic organizing approach to achieve this purpose.

Civic Non-Profit. Civic Non-Profit works to develop the capacity of non-profit organizations to contribute to the civic conscience, leadership, and capacity needed to be a just society.

Civic Organizing Inc./Civic Organizing Foundation. The mission of Civic Organizing Inc./Civic Organizing Foundation is to develop a cross-sector base of leaders, in Minnesota and across the nation, that has the capacity to transform fundamental institutions of family, community, learning, work, and governance into structures for civic capacity building and democratic governance.

Renewing the Public Congregation. Renewing the Public Congregation renews the public mission of faith communities, interweaving the internal practice of civic life inside congregations with the civic life of community and society.
