Civic Non-Profit

Governing Members: Sean Kershaw, Citizens League

Civic Non-Profit works to develop the capacity of non-profit organizations to develop the civic capacity needed to renew the civic infrastructure. Non-profit leaders are uniquely positioned to drive policymaking that contributes to the common good. To do so is the primary purpose for their existence. Even so, fragmentation, isolation, and a consumer versus ownership model proves a major threat to the non-profit sector's ability to achieve that purpose.

The Citizens League of Minnesota and the Vital Aging Network (VAN) are conducting pilot projects within their organizations to test the effectiveness of the civic organizing approach in helping non-profits better achieve their missions as democratic institutions.
